There are many things you can call Angela Bassett: mother, actress, entrepreneur. Well, now there’s another title to call her: Emmy winner!
The 9-1-1 actress has received nine Emmy nominations throughout her career, and she took home one for a project close to her heart. On September 7, Angela accepted the award for Outstanding Storyteller at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles. The award goes to Angela for her voiceover work on National Geographic’s Queens, a seven-episode limited series that explores the concept of matriarchy and female leaders in all forms of nature.
After being overwhelmed by the huge career milestone, Angela emotionally posted the moment she held the coveted trophy on Instagram. She also used the caption to share her feelings about finally receiving an Emmy.
“My first #Emmy. It feels so good to hold it in my hands,” she wrote emotionally the following day, September 8. “Thank you @televisionacad for helping me and the incredible story that the #Queens docuseries tells. I spend so much of my life telling stories in front of the camera, so when I have the opportunity to step back and let these majestic, powerful creatures be the center of our attention, I am honored to be their voice.”
Of course, Angela’s fans couldn’t contain their excitement at seeing her huge accomplishment. They were quick to congratulate her in the comments section on Instagram.
Well, this is certainly a great way to start the fall! And don’t forget that Angela will be returning to television soon, as 9-1-1 season 8 premieres on Thursday, September 26 at 8 p.m. ET. And like previous seasons, her character Athena Nash Grant will definitely be ready to help rescue people from emergencies.
