8 Best Potential Big Bang Theory Spinoffs After Stuart Fails To Save The Universe

When The Big Bang Theory originally premiered, the audience could not have known the sitcom would pave the way for several spinoff shows. While the original series focused on a group of friends, their neighbors, and their eventual spouses, the spinoffs have widened their scope.

Young Sheldon was the first Big Bang Theory spinoff, focusing on the childhood of the titular character before the events of The Big Bang TheoryGeorgie & Mandy’s First Marriage takes on Sheldon’s big brother and his first wife. Upcoming Stuart Fails To Save The Universe focuses on the owner of the comic book store.

Each of these spinoffs has expanded the world in which the original series is set. With the potential for more spinoffs still in the Big Bang Theory franchise, these would make for good story ideas.

Leonard & Penny Move To The East Coast

Nearly all of The Big Bang Theory is set in California. There is the odd episode that takes the characters to a new location, but California, and the group all working at Cal Tech, is a big part of the show. Transplanting a couple of those characters to the East Coast could make a nice jumping-off point for the show.

Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) are the best candidates in the show’s large ensemble. Leonard actually earned his education on the East Coast – at Princeton. He only moved to California to work at Cal Tech, which is where he met his friends and Penny and made a new life.

It would be easy enough for Leonard to take a job teaching or researching at his alma mater in order to initially make the couple and their family move. Penny, working as a sales rep for a pharmaceutical company, could just as easily be the one offered a transfer to someone like New York.

It would be a big adjustment for the two of them, who built their relationship with California as a backdrop. The culture of the East and West Coasts are different, the schools are different, and the live theater scene is different, which could reawaken Penny’s acting dreams.

Connor Moves Out Of His Parents’ House

Connor McAllister (Dougie Baldwin) was first introduced in Young Sheldon as Mandy’s younger brother. He spent most of his childhood being bullied by his big sister, but as of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, he still lives at home with the family, just like she, her husband, and their child do.

Connor has become a fan-favorite in the spinoff series. He has a lot in common with the original series character, but he is just different enough that it does not feel like the series has been retreading old ground with him.

Centering a spinoff on Connor would be as easy as moving him out of the family home. Connor would need a source of income for that beyond being a busboy, but he shows an interest in a methodical job and providing for himself from the one time he spontaneously decided to start clearing tables at a diner.

Seeing Connor hold down a 9 to 5 job while trying to make it as an artist and not being in the house with the same people who judge him on a regular basis could make for a decent framework for a sitcom.

Howard & Bernadette Grow Their Family

Howard (Simon Helberg) experienced the most growth of all the Big Bang Theory characters. When the original series began, his approach to women made the audience cringe more than it made them laugh. His pickup lines and his tendency to treat women as little more than sexual objects did not endear him to the audience.

As the series went on, however, the show gave him more depth, like his storyline about his desire to go to space. It also gave him a love interest in Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) who was willing to confront him about his bad behavior.

Bernadette and Howard made for a compelling love story as Howard became a much better person through their relationship, and Bernadette gave Penny a real friend outside Leonard’s friends. Bernadette was there for Howard when he lost his mom and the two started their own family.

They allowed for a handful of more dramatic storylines on The Big Bang Theory, but a series centered on their growing family would not have to be dramatic. They had two kids during the run of the show, but their children did not appear on screen very often.

Crafting a family sitcom around the Wolowitz family could build on what it’s like for a pair of children to be raised by a couple of scientists who are experts in their field. Bernadette and Howard did not chase prizes like Sheldon and Amy did, but they did often perform practical experiments and research in their work.

Ruben Opens His Own Shop

Ruben (Jessie Prez) was first introduced in the spinoff series Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage as one of the employees at McAllister Auto and Tire. While he does not particularly care for Georgie, he does become co-owner of the shop.

From the future in The Big Bang Theory, we know that Georgie becomes the owner of a tire empire. We don’t know exactly what happens to Ruben, though.

Given that Ruben and Georgie do not get along particularly well, Georgie & Mandy can mine plenty of conflict from the two running a shop together if it chooses. It can also, however, see the shop take off and Ruben open his own business.

Ruben opening his own business would get him out from under the McAllister’s family business. It could also allow one Big Bang Theory chapter to focus on a more diverse storyline – a Puerto Rican man running his own business.

Amy & Sheldon’s Post-Nobel Life

The Big Bang Theory ends on a high note for Amy (Mayim Bialik) and Sheldon (Jim Parsons). They win a Nobel Prize together, which is one dream Sheldon always hoped to achieve.

The Young Sheldon spinoff sees Sheldon narrating and discussing his childhood from a future beyond the original show. We only know bits and pieces about the future of the characters because of the way the show is narrated, but it does raise the question of just what the two scientists get up to after winning a Nobel.

Sheldon, at some point, decides to pen his memoirs. He and Amy also have children and keep in contact with their old friends. Penny even fosters an interest in acting in one of their kids.

It would certainly be entertaining to see the two of them navigating their careers, constantly reminding others that they’ve already earned their Nobel Prize, while still having to perform daily tasks for whatever university or companies they work for.

It would also be highly entertaining to see how the two of them interact with children since they are both socially awkward with adults. There would be plenty of comedy if either actor were willing to return to their roles full-time.

Missy Cooper Goes To Community College

Like so many members of Sheldon Cooper’s family, his sister Missy was originally introduced in The Big Bang Theory. That means we already know a little bit about her future. When Raegan Revord took over the role for Young Sheldon, the audience got to know more about her past.

Though Missy announced in Young Sheldon season 7 that she does not plan to go to college, that might simply mean she does not plan on following a rigorous academic path like Sheldon. Missy could still take classes at a community college.

As the sitcom Community proved, a community college setting can be a goldmine for comedy. It’s a school setting where different age groups, people from all different backgrounds, and people pursuing classes for all different reasons can meet up.

Missy might not have any interest in higher learning, but she could be interested in getting some sort of certification or associate’s degree for a job, and her going through a community college to get that would be a great way to introduce Missy to the wider world outside of her family in Texas.
