6 FBI Partnerships That Deserved More Screen Time — And Might’ve Surpassed OA & Maggie

FBI is wasting several partnerships that would be better than Maggie and OA. SInce the series began, FBI‘s Maggie and OA have been central to the procedural’s stories. The pair has a strong rapport and knows each other well, leading to audiences hoping that the two will become a romantic couple.

That said, Maggie and OA did not always work together in FBI season 7. Budget cuts led CBS to adopt a cast rotation policy in which some key characters were absent in certain episodes.

This practice forced Maggie and OA to each work with other people. Episodes that featured new partnerships demonstrated that OA and Maggie don’t have to always work together and that there are several other interesting potential partnerships.

6.Nina and Scola

The Couple Lives Together, So They Can Work Together

Nina originally worked for the New York Field Office before joining FBI: Most Wanted, and she occasionally returns to FBI to help with specific cases. The couple is dating and has a child together, so they prefer to work in separate offices so that someone can always be home with their son.

That said, Nina and Scola bring the same qualities to their work relationship that they do to their romantic one — advanced knowledge of each other, strong understanding of the other’s preferences and needs, and the ability to use their skills to complement each other.

FBI: Most Wanted was one of the shows CBS canceled in 2025, so there is little reason not to feature Nina working with Scola more often. Doing so would add to the series’ interest, especially since Scola has had so much difficulty finding a permanent partner.

5.Maggie and Scola

The Two Have A Different and Fresher Dynamic

Maggie and Scola worked together on several occasions in FBI season 7. The first time they were partnered was at Maggie’s request because she was upset that OA let his personal feelings interfere with his objectivity and demeanor while working a case involving a bombing at a majority-Muslim immigrant shelter.

While this story was technically still about Maggie and OA’s relationship, it also showcased the strength of a potential partnership between Maggie and Scola.

While this story was technically still about Maggie and OA’s relationship, it also showcased the strength of a potential partnership between Maggie and Scola. The two have a very different vibe than Maggie and OA because they don’t know each other as well.

Maggie and Scola’s partnership is less intimate and more work-focused, and Scola tends to be more level-headed while Maggie is more intuitive. These differences make this partnership fresh and exciting.

I'm Thankful For Isobel's FBI Season 7, Episode 17 Decision, But I'm Still Worried About Her Future

4.Jubal and Isobel

The Two Leaders Should Go Out In the Field Together

Jubal and Isobel comprise the leadership team, which requires them to stay in the squad room and make decisions about how to proceed with each investigation. Jubal tends to be more active than Isobel. He usually provides the team with minute-to-minute guidance, while Isobel makes bigger decisions that affect the New York Region of the FBI.

It’s rare that either of these characters do field work, although both have from time to time. Jubal went to Budapest for one of FBI: International’s final cases, while Isobel ran an underground operation during the FBI season 7 finale. The FBI season 7 cliffhanger left Isobel’s fate in limbo after she collapsed while giving a speech.

Having the two leaders go out into the field would be a refreshing change of pace that could keep FBI fresh during its eighth season.

It’s not clear whether her medical emergency will end her time on the procedural. If it doesn’t, she and Jubal should work on a case together. Having the two leaders go out into the field would be a refreshing change of pace that could keep FBI fresh during its eighth season.

3.Elise and Ian

The Two Minor Characters Could Shine Together

Ian and Elise are minor characters, especially in the later seasons. They are both analysts — Ian often breaks encrypted computer files and systems, while Elise discovers financial and other patterns in suspect data.

Their work is usually done in the office, which is why they have smaller parts in FBI. Often, they have a few lines per episode in which one or both of them imparts important information to the main team. That said, it would be interesting for the two analysts to have a bigger story together.

At least once a season, they should become central characters. Allowing Elise and Ian to use their analysis skills in a new way and bounce ideas off each other would be entertaining. It would also be a different type of episode, which would get the procedural out of its creative rut.

2.OA and Scola

The Two Rarely Work Together

OA and Scola don’t usually work together. However, after Tiffany left FBI season 7, leaving Scola with no permanent partner, the series tried him with several different characters, including OA.

The energy and chemistry between two men who have different personalities is an interesting departure from the usual partnership.

OA and Scola’s partnership was interesting because it was one of the few times that Scola worked with another man. The energy and chemistry between two men who have different personalities is an interesting departure from the usual partnership. Additionally, OA and Scola are equally experienced.

Thus, there were no problems such as an overeager partner not telling Scola what they were doing, leading to an unnecessarily dangerous situation. Additionally, neither partner had to train the other — the two men simply did the work. This was refreshing and needs to happen more often.

1.Maggie and Isobel

Maggie Should Move Into Leadership

Maggie and Isobel have a good working relationship. Maggie trusts Isobel’s advice and consults with her as needed about cases. These ingredients would make for an interesting partnership if the two were to work directly on a case.

Although Isobel isn’t usually in the field, she would get into the action if there was a compelling reason for her to do so. Thus, if there was a case that was especially important to her for personal or professional reasons, she would be willing to partner with Maggie to get it closed.

Maggie would likely do more of the field work, but the two could still work closely together. The ability to do this type of story depends on Isobel’s fate, but it would be particularly interesting if Isobel decided to retire rather than being killed off.

Isobel might want to ensure the New York Field Office leadership was secure before leaving her position. Working with Maggie could help her do that — Jubal could be promoted to her position while she helped Maggie prepare for a leadership role. This would lead to some fantastic interactions between the two women in FBI before Isobel departed the series.
