20 Years Later, This Iconic Drama Still Reigns as the Most Streamed Series in 2025

Grey’s Anatomy is easily one of the longest-running scripted primetime drama series. The show has remained popular for over twenty years since the first episode aired, and its fans all over the world are some of the most dedicated. So dedicated are they that the medical drama never fails to appear on streaming charts, and as the show gears up for Season 22, Disney+ viewers are preparing by catching up. The show has dominated the top spot for a long time on the streaming platform owned by Disney, which also owns its linear broadcaster, ABC. Grey’s Anatomy has broadcast 448 episodes thus far, and the number will rise when new ones debut this fall.

ABC’s fall schedule finds the show keeping its previous season’s airdate and time. New episodes return on Thursday, October 9, and viewers are curious to see what happens next after that massive season-ending cliffhanger, a specialty of the show. Who at Grey Sloan will survive the explosion that rocked the hospital’s foundation in the Season 21 finale? What will be the fallout from such an incident? The show’s creative team has remained mum about the season, but news should be coming in with the premiere only two months away.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Could Run for a Very Long Time

Twenty years is no minor feat for a show to be on the air. Actors, writers, directors, and even showrunners have come and gone, but the show remains a fan-favorite. As many broadcast shows age, networks tend to cancel them to reign in budgets, but ABC has shown no indication of cancelling the series. The fact that it does so well on streaming works in Grey’s Anatomy‘s favor. “As long as people want to watch it, we’re excited about making it,” executive producer Betsy Beers said when asked about how long she sees the show running for. She added:

“People always ask, ‘Do you think about this in terms of how long something will run?’ All we love to do is work on things that we love or are interested in, and that we would watch. That was sort of the key. I still think it’s a really fun show to watch. The great thing is, it’s a situation where you can bring people in and people leave, and people come back, and new people come in, and there’s always an engine for new personalities, new conflicts. The great thing and the sad thing about medicine is it’s always changing, and there are always new cases. As a setting, it’s great.”

The 18-episode Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 returns on Thursday, October 9. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
