CBS’s military drama SEAL Team has become one of the most popular shows on television in recent years. While the series has received mixed reviews from critics, fans have given it high marks. The first season exceeded expectations with an average viewership of 9.8 million.
The series was created after the success of History Channel’s Six proved that there was a demand for military dramas. So far, the character development has been great, and hopefully that will continue. Here are some things fans may not know about the main characters.
Earlier in the series, Jason tries to reconcile with his wife, but it doesn’t work out. She tells him she’s divorcing him right before he’s deployed to Jalalabad, Afghanistan. It’s definitely not the best of times, and thinking about a failed marriage while you’re at war must be tough.
Additionally, this is not Jason’s first deployment to Afghanistan. In season three, he mentions that he enlisted in the Navy just before 9/11. He later reveals that his entire military career revolved around the War on Terror and that he has been to Afghanistan twelve times.
In the episode titled “Drawdown,” Sonny reconnects with an old friend named Hannah, as well as his estranged father Emmet Quinn. Sonny continues to tell Hannah that his father still makes him angry. In response, she tells him that his father is still a drunk who frequents bars alone.
The three plan a dinner date, but Sonny gets into a heated argument with his father. Sonny is still angry about how his father left him at his grandparents’ house when he was eight years old. During the argument, Sonny’s father also reveals that his son’s real birth name is Percival Quinn.
Clay speaks a total of ten languages: Hausa, French, Arabic, Yoruba, Mende, Pashto, Spanish, Urdu, English, and Mandarin. At this rate, he should really be an intelligence officer working for the CIA or NSA, not a Navy SEAL.
Stella once told her parents that Clay speaks several different languages. His linguistic proficiency comes from having served in many different regions throughout his military career.
In the season one episode “Other Lives,” it was briefly mentioned that the former Bravo Team CIA liaison comes from a family that is episodic. She never met her father because he had a falling out with her mother and left shortly before she was born.
Mandy later discovered that her mother was also a career criminal. She was a con artist and child entertainer. At one point, she was arrested and convicted of credit card fraud, identity theft, and insurance fraud.
